The Apollo Pro Ludicrous is one of the fastest high-performance speed demon we’ve ever tested, beating most other extreme scooters on the planet in our ESG certified acceleration tests. Not only is it a racing quality electric scooter, it also has the most comfortable ride we’ve ridden in any price class.
With dual thumb controls, the Pro Ludicrous is like playing a video game, making for a surprisingly enjoyable ride on this extreme racing beast. Paired with the high-tech Stormcore motor controller, scooter enthusiasts have the power to fine tune speed and torque. Riders access the innovative controller functions via a mobile app*, which doubles as the scooter display.

Acceleration
The Apollo Pro Ludicrous has record-breaking acceleration, dethroning the big bad Wolf Warrior and the offroading QPower beast as the fastest scooters we’ve ever tested.
With a 165 lb rider, the Pro Ludicrous accelerates from zero to 15 mph at a mindblowing 1.7 seconds, reaching 20 mph in only 2.3 seconds, 25 mph in 3.1 seconds, and 30 mph in 4.0 seconds flat. This blows past the former champion of speed, the Wolf Warrior, which reaches 30 mph in 5.2 seconds.
A key component of the responsive, smooth acceleration is the thumb throttle. Acceleration on the Ludicrous is extremely linear, as is braking. If you pull hard, you’ll rocket away; if you pull gradually, you’ll more gradually accelerate.
On top of raw speed, another feature geared to racing enthusiasts is the customizability of acceleration, torque, and braking intensity via the powerful Stormcore motor controller. In addition to settings within the app, power users can increase control and telemetry using a PC-only application — but the wrong settings can cause catastrophic failure.
Hill Climb
The Apollo Pro Ludicrous is the fastest hill climber that we’ve ever tested.
The Pro Ludicrous rocketed away in our 200 foot, 10% grade hill climb test, roaring up the incline in 6.8 seconds. It’s a good thing we had a spotter on deck to catch our 165 lb rider, as the Ludicrous was still accelerating over 21.1 mph at the top.
The Apollo Pro is the second best climber, getting up the hill in 7.5 seconds with an average speed of 18.0 mph.

Top Speed
The Apollo Pro Ludicrous is the fastest electric scooter we’ve ever tested.
In our one-block, 400 foot ESG certified speed test, the Pro Ludicrous has a top speed of over 44.0 mph. Because our runway is limited to the standard length of a city block 400 feet, we estimate the Ludicrous averages a record-breaking 50 mph given a longer racetrack.
The Wolf Warrior topped out at 45.0 mph at the 400 foot distance, with the Apollo Pro matching the Wolf’s top speed.
Range
We range test all scooters with a 165 lb rider along the same urban loop with frequent stops, rough terrain, and hills. It is ridden in the scooter’s fastest mode as quickly as is safe.
The Pro Ludicrous has an ESG certified range of 29.6 miles at an average of 18 mph. The Apollo Pro and Pro Ludicrous come with a 21 amp hour Samsung battery for a total of 1260 watt hours.
According to Apollo, it takes 10 to 12 hours to charge. You can cut the time in half by using two chargers or one fast charger. However, to maximize the lifetime of your battery, we recommend using one regular charger given you have the time.

Braking
The Pro Ludicrous has incredible stopping power, with a tested braking distance of 9.7 feet from a 15 mph speed. When it comes to stopping power for electric scooters, anything under 15 feet is excellent. Only the Apollo Pro beats it, with a braking distance of 8.8 ft — the best of any scooter we’ve tested. It should be noted that the difference here is so small — a mere 0.9 ft — that it’s within the precision of our testing; almost too small to say there’s a true difference in their braking performance.
The Ludicrous comes with an incredible regenerative braking system, triggered by the ergonomic, responsive thumb control. Although it also comes with cable-operated hydraulic disc brakes, we quickly grew to appreciate the more comfortable, superior control of the regen brake.
One nuance that we were not expecting was how much safer we felt coming to a stop from full speed, as in an emergency, using the regenerative brake. If you hit the regen brake traveling at full speed, the system slows you down extremely fast without the risk of locking up the tires — making deceleration faster and safer.
Ride Quality
The Apollo Pro Ludicrous has the best ride quality of any scooter in any price class that we’ve tested.
Super scooter users can increase control over acceleration, braking, and torque in the Stormcore app, and can deeply fine tune these abilities using a PC-only application. Along with controls for speed, the steering feels particularly controlled as well. Apollo implemented a notch that holds the handlebars centered over the front wheel, which requires less effort to hold straight while riding. Also, the suspension has a preload adjustment, allowing riders of different weights to set the suspension in its correct range of operation.
The Ludicrous has all the power and command of an extreme racing scooter, and handles like a Tesla: massive power, exceptionally smooth acceleration and braking, best-in-class suspension, and the most ergonomic controls on the market. With 10.0-inch pneumatic tires, an expansive deck with griptape, and industry-rocking regenerative brakes, the Ludicrous stands apart. Above all other features, the Stormcore controller and dual thumb controls make the Ludicrous an extremely fast, extremely comfortable high-performance electric scooter.
Apollo Pro Ludicrous Features
Stormcore Controller
No complete review of the Apollo Ludicrous Pro would be complete without diving into one of its most unique features, the Lacroix Stormcore controller.
The Ludicrous packs a Stormcore 100D controller, which is capable of supplying 100 A of current at 84 V to two seperate motors. It has a Bluetooth radio that connects to their custom Stormcore app.
The Stormcore controller is based on the VESC Project developed by Benjamin Vedder. This is open-source firmware and hardware for high-performance electric motor control; this project is well-known to electric skateboard and other PEV builders.
Portability
For a beast scooter with incredible power, the Ludicrous is as portable as is possible for a 77 lb build. It has a folding stem, a sturdy stem ring lock, and two securing clasps that take a little play to get secured/unsecured. The cables are routed nicely into the stem, but the handlebars do not fold down and you cannot lock the stem into place when folded. Also, the kickstand is too short, making it easier to tip.
The Ludicrous measures 50 inches long by 26 inches wide by 52 inches tall with a folded height of 21 inches.
Cockpit
The cockpit on the Pro Ludicrous is completely unique, as you’ll find dual thumb controls for the regen brake and throttle, heavy duty hand grips, hand lever-operated mechanical brakes, and nicely routed cables. But really little else, including no built-in display and no horn.
Your smartphone becomes your scooter display with the Stormcore app. According to Apollo, in future versions, you should also be able to activate the button deck lights* and read your speed on a smartwatch. Apollo recommends a phone mount for using your phone as the display.
Here’s a mount that we suggest, but any phone holder that firmly attaches to your handlebars and can grip your phone will do.
*At the time of this review, light activation was not integrated into the Stormcore app.
Lights
Of all things that could be lacking, the Pro Ludicrous lacks only in built-in lighting. We could not activate the lights using the Stormcore app during this review. It comes with low-mounted front and rear button deck lights; Apollo promises to ship all Ludicrous scooters with a 2500 lumen front headlight — an awesome lighting upgrade.

Tires
The Ludicrous comes with dual 10-inch tube-filled pneumatic tires, and a split rim design for easy tire changes. Combined with best-in-class suspension, the stock tires give the rider a smooth, even cruise across good to moderate terrain. For rougher off-roading, you can upgrade to tread-heavy winter tires.
Flats happen, especially on the rear tire, but most can be prevented.

Deck
The oversized, durable deck features Apollo’s signature griptape design and measures 19.0-inches long by 9.0-inches wide with 7.3 inches of ground clearance. It’s got a sleek look with red accent details and a heavy duty, high quality feel.
Warranty / Post-Purchase Support
The Pro Ludicrous comes with a 24-month extended warranty.
Apollo covers the cost of labor and parts on most components within the first 12 months, with an additional 12 months coverage on essential parts like the throttle, turning shaft, frame, and controller. Components that will suffer usual wear and tear, like the brake pads and inner tubes, are covered for a much shorter term.

Build Quality
The Pro Ludicrous is an exceptionally well-built, amazing racing version of the Apollo Pro. With the same bomb-proof frame, suspension, and power as the Apollo Pro, plus thumb triggers and insane tunability, the Ludicrous is on another planet. It’s the fastest, most comfortable high-performance electric scooter that we’ve ever tested.
Along with the features in the Stormcore app, a USB cable hidden in the front left corner of the deck allows riders to connect their PC to an application providing advanced controls. Having this power is an amazing innovation in the industry, but you can cause catastrophe if you don’t know what you’re doing.
