Our Take: Excellent Quality That’s Built for Smaller Riders

Innovating on the award-winning design of its predecessors, the Quick 4 Super represents the next generation of scooters, promising a durable, high quality appeal. With a sleek LED display, lights that turn on automatically, and a head-turning design, the Inokim Quick 4 Super is a super performance commuter.

The Quick 4 Super has the potential to be the best all-around commuter, as Inokim defines it: a balance of power, range and portability. While it has the smooth acceleration that the brand is known for, quick folding, a compact folded-footprint and totally adequate range, the Quick 4 misses the mark when it comes to two important elements of ride quality: deck size and stability at top speed.

With the short deck (the shortest we’ve ever tested), minor stem wobble, and a slight feeling of instability near top speed, the Quick 4 Super comes super close to being the best all around commuter, but suits smaller riders best at speeds of 20 mph or less.

Is It Good for Bigger, Heavier Riders? – No.

Big Dawgs are larger riders that are over 200 lb and 6 feet or taller, often favoring oversized decks, tall handlebars, pneumatic tires, and suspension.

Quick with the style, slow with the substance

For Ramier, our resident Big Dawg, the Inokim Quick 4 Super is like a designer t-shirt, coming from a fancy brand that you want to have but that’s a little more style than substance.

Although Ramier thinks the LCD screen is dope, he expected the Quick 4 Super to perform as well as it looks and it just didn’t satisfy on its promise. Big Dawgs are in need of power to counter their added weight/height, and the Quick 4 has a lower 23.8 mph top speed than most scooters in this price range.

Smallest deck that we’ve tested

The deck made the Quick 4 difficult for this 6’4″ big dawg to ride, as he couldn’t find comfortable footing on the 8.5 in by 15.5 in deck. We’re not actually that surprised that the Quick 4 isn’t Big Dawg approved, as Fluid Freeride does not recommend the Inokim Quick 4 Super for riders over 6′ tall or over 220 lbs.

Acceleration

In our 0 to 15 mph acceleration tests, the Quick 4 Super lands in the middle among scooters from its class, with a time of 4.7 seconds, reaching 20 miles per hour in 8.7 seconds.

Hill Climb

The Quick 4 Super continues to accelerate throughout our entire 10% grade hill climb test, hitting 11 mph at the 200-foot mark and crossing the finish line in 14.3 seconds. While certainly not the fastest up the hill in the single motor category, the fact that it’s still accelerating helps you avoid the dreaded “toy-winding-down” feeling, which is how some scooters respond to the climb.

Top Speed

When compared with other performance commuters, the Inokim Quick 4 Super has a lower top speed of 23.8 mph which is enough speed to flow with urban traffic without causing a hazard.

Range

The Quick 4 can go the distance for daily commuting with 24.6 miles of range. We perform our tests with a 165 lb rider and with the scooter set to its highest performance mode. Range varies depending on your size and riding style.

Braking

With dual drum brakes and dual pneumatic tires, the Quick 4 Super has satisfying brake feel with a solid braking distance of 12.1 feet. The brakes include high-end touches like billet aluminum brake-actuating arms which deliver an extra firm, confidence-inspiring feel when you pull the brake levers. The drum brakes provide excellent modulation, letting the rider bring the scooter to the edge of maximum braking without skidding.

The main thing keeping the braking from outperforming other scooters is that the short wheel base and lack of rear footrest make it difficult to bring the rider’s weight rearward enough to provide optimal weight distribution for braking.

Ride Quality

When it comes to any scooter vying for the title of best all around commuter scooter, we expect at least 22 mph top speed, at least 20 miles of range, and enough power to get you up to speed quickly, whether that’s from a stoplight or climbing a hill. It should also have a comfortable ride and be easy to lift.

The Inokim Quick 4 Super mostly satisfies these elements, but with the smaller than average deck size you’ve also got a shorter wheel base resulting in quick steering and a snowboarding-style ride. While this provides some of the best corner-carving capabilities we’ve ever seen, the quick steering leads to a feeling of instability at higher speeds. Combined with a small but noticeable amount of stem wobble, the ride quality left us feeling a little let down after our expectations were set so high by the stunning overall build quality.

The Quick 4 has dual suspension, with a spring suspension in the front and rubber suspension in the rear. It feels fairly firm, providing damping which is adequate at the front but a bit better at the rear. We have found that rubber suspension will behave differently over time and in varying temperatures but, when it comes to suspension feel, the tradeoff is well worth it.

We did get some surprises out of the stem (which you can see in our first impressions video). During testing, some of the team experienced the telescoping stem collapsing while riding. However, once we tightened the clamp as hand-tight as we could, we no longer had this problem.

Park feature

One safety feature that caught us a bit off-guard is the Park function. When the scooter is powered on or idle for 30 seconds or more, it will enter Park mode, disabling the throttle. It’s a zero-start scooter, so this feature ensures that you cannot accidentally cause the scooter to go by bumping into the throttle lever. To exit Park mode, you tap the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons, pull on either brake lever, or double-tap the thumb throttle.

Portability

The Quick 4 Super is called quick not because of its speed on the road, but for its speed to fold — and it is super quick. With a telescoping stem, folding handlebars, handles at the front and rear, and a locking fold design for easier carrying, the Quick 4 has great portability features.

We feel it is most comfortable to carry the Quick 4 with the scooter upright but with handlebars down. This allows the rider to use both the front and rear holds to carry the scooter. If you need to fold it, it’s very quick and efficient to fold the stem and handlebars. The stem has a special lock for the folding mechanism to ensure the stem won’t come loose accidentally. It’s a signature Inokim feature, and is beautifully well executed.

The Quick 4 Super measures 45 inches long by 45 in wide by 47 inches tall with a folded height of 22 inches. The folded height is a little tall for some car trunks, so you may need to lay the scooter on its side.

Cockpit

The Inokim Quick 4 Super has a particularly well-put together cockpit, with an advanced built-in LED display, textured hand grips, rubber-wrapped brake levers, a smart bell, and sleek button controls for power, lights, and options.

The contrast of the red knurled-aluminum releases for the folding handlebars adds a touch of color. The cables are wrapped and routed nicely into the stem, and the thumb throttle with rubber inset has a satisfying, linear feel when accelerating.

You can access P-settings via the display and plus (+) and minus (-) buttons, including the screen brightness, speedometer settings, and so on. The display itself is bright and very easy to read, even without turning up the brightness to the maximum setting.

Lights

The two button deck lights act as headlights and the blinking red taillight mounted on the rear fender automatically turn on when the scooter is powered on and the environment is dark. There is a light sensor on the LED display, which you can set to turn on at varying levels of ambient brightness.

For riding at night though, we recommend adding even more lighting for better visibility.

Tires

The Quick 4 Super comes with 10.0 in inner tube tires mounted on split rims. The tires provide excellent traction and road feel. Pneumatic tires provide the most comfortable ride, and are well worth the added maintenance and risk of flats over flat-free, solid tires.

Deck

The Quick 4 has the smallest deck that we’ve ever tested, and may be one of the biggest factors affecting ride quality. The deck measures 15.5 inches long by 8.5 inches wide with 5 inches of ground clearance. There’s griptape running the length in strips on the deck with a handle at the rear that you can use to carry it when upright.

Build Quality

The Inokim Quick 4 Super has a sensational design, best-in-class display, well thought out portability features, and feels truly special. Add in next-generation features like the automatic lights, dual suspension, and low-maintenance best-of-breed drum brakes, and the Quick 4 comes frustratingly close to being the best overall commuter.

Only it’s short deck, slight stem wobble and overly-quick steering at top speed let it down. What the Quick 4 gets right with portability, appearance, and quality only highlights the important aspects of ride quality that it misses.

Inokim Quick 4 Super: Review Conclusions

The Quick 4 Super has a balance of range, power, and portability but misses the mark with the undersized deck and when riding at speeds over 20 mph. At slower speeds, the Quick 4 Super feels super stable and fun for carving the streets in style. At higher speeds, the Quick 4’s unsteady steering makes it feel much less high-end.

If it had slightly better high-speed stability and a longer deck, it would be an excellent choice for everyday urban commuting. As it is, the Quick 4 Super maintains its place as one of the sickest looking, premium performance commuters we’ve had in our inventory.
